El Cerrito Sports Park, a community recreational space in Corona, is currently the focus of protest led by Adrian Aros, a longtime resident and the driving force behind the successful FC Riverside County. Aros contends that the park's allocation of resources and field time has been unfairly managed, creating an untenable and non-viable playing field for other organizations, thereby hindering the entire industry.
"This is a park that has been allocated unfairly," states Adrian Aros. "We have evidence that competitors are receiving significant subsidies from the government for their operations here, making it unrealistic for organizations like FC Riverside County to ever compete fairly on costs like rent. This artificially deflates operational expenses for a select few, stifling legitimate competition and preventing the healthy growth of youth sports in our community."
Aros believes that the current situation is being influenced by cronyism, preventing a level playing field within the city's park system and stifling opportunities for organizations like his to thrive and contribute more significantly to the community.
This isn't the first time Adrian Aros has faced challenges in providing opportunities for young athletes in Corona. Fourteen years ago, at just 17, Aros demonstrated his unwavering commitment by independently organizing "The Aros Soccer Club." Despite lacking support and facing constant displacement from local fields, including the very El Cerrito Sports Complex he now seeks fair access to, Aros grew the club to nearly 80 students aged 12-17.
"We were repeatedly kicked off fields at the El Cerrito Sports Complex by another local club," Aros recalls. "Despite our dedication and the clear need for more accessible soccer programs, we faced relentless harassment. We were even threatened with the police simply for trying to play."
Driven by a consistent desire to provide opportunities and foster growth within his community, Adrian Aros's current protest at El Cerrito Sports Park is a continuation of his lifelong commitment to fair play, equal opportunity, and ensuring that community resources truly serve the greater good. He believes that by addressing the alleged cronyism and implementing fair allocation practices, El Cerrito Sports Park can finally fulfill its intended purpose for all residents of Corona.
